Review browser settings
- Check the default search engine, homepage, and pages that open at startup.
- Remove any site from notification permissions that you do not recognize.
- Look for extensions installed around the time the behavior began. Disable questionable ones before deleting them.
Check the computer too
- Open the installed-app list and sort by date. Remove unfamiliar programs only after identifying them.
- Run the operating system built-in security scan.
- Update the browser and restart the computer so pending removals can finish.
Reset only when needed
- A browser reset can restore search and startup settings, but it may disable useful extensions and sign you out.
- Sync can sometimes bring a bad extension back from another device; review synced extensions.
- Do not install another random cleanup tool advertised by the unwanted page.
Stop guessing when the problem keeps coming back
Ask for cleanup help if redirects affect multiple browsers, extensions return after removal, or security scans report unwanted software.
