Printer Problems

Printer Has Ink but Won't Print: Common Fixes

Find out why a printer with ink may not print and safely check the queue, selected printer, printhead, connection, and driver.

Confirm the job reaches the correct printer

  • Look at the printer name in the print window. Old or duplicate printer entries are common after a router or computer change.
  • Cancel all jobs, restart the printer, and send a one-page test.
  • Check the printer screen for a paper-size mismatch, open cover, jam, or cartridge warning.

If pages come out blank

  • Run the built-in nozzle check or printhead cleaning from the printer menu or manufacturer app.
  • Confirm protective tape was removed from a new cartridge and that each cartridge is seated correctly.
  • Do not run many cleaning cycles in a row. They use ink and may not solve a dried or failing printhead.

Refresh the software connection

  • Use the manufacturer app to check whether the computer can see the printer.
  • Install current software from the printer maker, then restart the computer.
  • For network printers, verify the printer and computer are on the same main network rather than separate guest networks.
