Reduce startup work
- Open Task Manager, choose Startup apps, and disable nonessential tools you recognize.
- Leave security software, hardware utilities, and anything you are unsure about enabled until it is identified.
- Restart and compare the time it takes before the computer is ready to use.
Clean up safely
- Use Windows Storage settings or Disk Cleanup for temporary files and old update files.
- Uninstall unused applications through Settings instead of deleting program folders by hand.
- Review browser extensions and remove ones you did not install or no longer need.
Update and evaluate hardware
- Install Windows and manufacturer driver updates from trusted sources.
- Run Windows Security, then restart after the scan.
- If the computer still uses a mechanical drive or has very little RAM, ask whether an SSD or memory upgrade makes financial sense before replacing it.
