Printer Problems

How to Connect a Wireless Printer to a New Router

Reconnect a printer after changing internet providers, router hardware, Wi-Fi names, or passwords.

Gather the new network details

  • Use the exact Wi-Fi name and password shown by the router or your chosen settings.
  • Connect the computer or phone to the main network, not guest Wi-Fi.
  • Remove the old network from the printer if it keeps trying to reconnect to it.

Join Wi-Fi from the printer

  • Use the printer screen, Wi-Fi setup wizard, or official manufacturer app.
  • Keep the printer near the router during setup if signal is questionable.
  • Wait for a connection confirmation or print a network report.

Refresh computers and phones

  • Restart the printer after it joins the new network.
  • Remove stale offline copies and add the printer through the current network.
  • Test both printing and scanning because they may use separate software.
When to ask for help

Stop guessing when the problem keeps coming back

Get help if the printer cannot see the new Wi-Fi, supports only an older wireless band, or reconnects but computers cannot discover it.
