Measure before changing equipment
- Run a speed test near the router with one device, then repeat where staff notice trouble.
- Compare wired and wireless results if a wired computer is available.
- Note whether slowdowns happen at a specific time, during backups, or when many guests are present.
Improve placement and reduce interference
- Place the router in an open, central position rather than inside a cabinet or behind metal equipment.
- Keep it away from microwaves, cordless phone bases, and dense utility areas.
- Use the appropriate 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz band based on distance and device needs.
Plan for business use
- Older all-in-one equipment may struggle with many active devices.
- A properly planned mesh system can improve coverage, but extra nodes placed too far apart will not help.
- Separate guest devices from business systems with a guest network when the router supports it.
Stop guessing when the problem keeps coming back
Ask for help before buying equipment when coverage is inconsistent, point-of-sale devices disconnect, or you need a guest network without exposing business devices.
